Design Statement: My design philosophy is centred on creating spaces that bring people together in meaningful and inclusive ways. It explores how design can reduce social distance, encourage belonging, and support emotional comfort across different age groups, backgrounds, and cultures. Through the Intergenerational Harmony Hub, spatial design is used to create opportunities for natural interaction without making communication feel forced. The project reflects the belief that spaces should balance openness with calm, allowing people to connect, reflect, and feel at ease. This approach focuses on designing environments that are sensitive to human behaviour and social connection, creating spaces that feel welcoming, balanced, and emotionally supportive.
Project Overview: This project proposes an intergenerational hub designed to address the growing distance between age groups by creating a calm, inclusive environment where interaction occurs naturally. It responds to the tendency for different generations to coexist without meaningful connection, often resulting in separation and discomfort. The hub encourages effortless interaction, comfort, and belonging without pressure or judgement. Organised around the principles of connect, engage, and restore, the design balances active and quieter spaces that support conversation, shared experiences, creativity, and moments of pause. Through openness, gentle circulation, and spatial balance, the project enables children, young adults, adults, and older generations to coexist comfortably while maintaining individuality and fostering connection.
