Design Statement: “David Bowie expressed in an interview in 1997, “Never work for other people in what you do. Always remember that the reason you initially started working was that there was something inside yourself that you felt that if you could manifest it in some way you would understand more about yourself and how you coexist with the rest of society”. Design is and will always be a form of understanding and expressing one’s true emotions and feelings in moments where they feel lost. The invention of the wheel and the lightbulb came from creative thinking. It is in all of us, it just needs a means of expression. Visible is merely a platform, a spotlight, a means through which one can find their form of expression through their interests, showcasing identity and personality by integrating the modern world with cultural roots.
Project Overview: In today’s fast-paced fashion world, Indian youth often struggle to find clothing that reflects both their cultural identity and their modern, global lifestyle. Traditional wear can feel too formal or outdated for everyday use, while Western fashion often lacks cultural relevance or emotional connection. This disconnect creates a gap where young people feel forced to choose between authenticity and style, instead of experiencing both together. VISIBLE addresses this gap by blending Indian craft traditions with modern Western silhouettes through an immersive digital platform designed for exploration, customisation, and cultural rediscovery. The platform integrates local textiles, handcrafted motifs, and regional design languages with digital personalisation tools that allow users to adjust silhouettes, styling, and Western-in-spired aesthetics. Through this hybrid approach, VISIBLE empowers young fashion enthusiasts to build looks that honour their roots while expressing a contemporary, globally aware identity. The result is a fashion experience that is culturally grounded, visually modern, and authentically personal.
